Greetings all.
Apologies if this has already been mentioned or discussed but I just felt that it had to be raised.
I am a dedicated miner and spend most of my eve time mining. I am director of mining ops for my corporation. I generally prefer mining over the other aspects of the game. So I download the new client, install the graphics pack and then go to start mining, and what do I get. My ship looks much prettier and I'm impressed. I fly out, everything looks great. I lock on a roid and fire my strip miners and....... frankly I am disgusted.
Strip miners had that glorius thick orange beam and a sound of huge power and what do we get with this huge graphics update? We get screwed.
Miner beams are now 2 pixels wide and alternate between white and blue pixels. You get a tiny pulse of pixels, blue, white, blue white and so on. Thats it. It's smaller, its shorter and frankly now looks like I'm using 8 bit VGA graphics. Its pathetic.
So lets talk about sounds. We had that big booming thrum, made you think that the local power generator is discharging its power. It was without a doubt the most awesome sound in eve. Can you guess what we have now????
The most pitiful annoying sound you've ever heard. It sounds like a hollow tinny midget shouting "oooohhhh, weeeeeeeeeeeeee".
Congratulations to CCP, they have now created the first ever EVE brown noise generator. If you don't know what brown noise is, it's a sound that resonates to a certain frequency that sends yours bowels into involuntary spasms causing you to immediately soil yourself. Thats what the new mining sound is like.
After 5 minutes of that sound I wanted to put my head through my monitor. I now run EVE with my audio disabled because I just can't take hearing that sound ever again.
Way to go to completely ruin the part of the game I enjoy the most. I get that CCP wants this to be a completely PVP game, cause thats all they seem to do with all the updates. Make it more geared to fighting. But seriously, without the miners the economy if this game will simply stop. You can't PVP if you have no ships, you can't get ships if there are no minerals. You can't get minerals without MINERS!!!
Don't screw your own game by alienating parts of the player base. We play eve because we don't want to play another game of nothing but pvp and yet each update this game becomes more about PVP. At this rate in another few updates we're likely to see Mining, Science, Invention and all those other great things removed completely since they detract from the successful annihilation of the other players.
I'm not expecting anything to come by this post. But on behalf of all miners out there I beg of CCP, please take out that god awful sound. The graphics I can live with, but that sound is just too much.
